A Bit About My Life Between San Francisco, Tokyo and Everything In Between

I’ve been based in San Francisco for the past couple of years after living in Tokyo for about five years. These days San Francisco is home but I still travel back to Tokyo regularly to perform and stay connected to people and places that have been a big part of my life and career.

A lot of my world has always been built around live performance so moving between these two cities has felt pretty natural over time.

San Francisco Has Been Home Base

In San Francisco I’ve been performing for almost two decades in different spaces around the city. One of the places that’s been a constant in my life is Martuni’s Piano Bar where I’ve performed regularly over the years.

I also sing the national anthem for the San Francisco Giants which is always a special experience and I currently perform monthly at The Academy SF. On top of that I’m often involved in benefit and community events including frequent appearances with REAF fundraising concerts.

SF has really been the place where a lot of my performance identity has grown and evolved.

My Time in Tokyo and Going Back Now

I lived in Tokyo for about five years and it’s still a place I go back to regularly.

When I’m there I perform at venues like MyScotch Piano Bar in Roppongi and Kingdom in Shinjuku. Tokyo was a huge chapter of my life and even though I’m not based there anymore I still feel very creatively connected to it.

Going back and forth between San Francisco and Tokyo has given me a really interesting mix of influences and audiences over the years.

Other Places and Residencies

Outside of SF and Tokyo I’ve also performed in places like Puerto Vallarta where I had two residencies at Act2PV’s Red Room. Each place has its own energy and I’ve always liked that my work has taken me into very different performance environments.

More Than Just Music

Alongside live singing I’ve also worked as an actor in both the U.S. and Japan.

Some of my screen work includes The X-Factor USA, Looking, Love is Not Enough and Eat the Rainbow as well as Japanese television and film projects like Unbelievable, Songs of Tokyo and The Investor.

I’ve also done commercial work in Japan for brands like Rosetta Stone, Suntory and IDEX.

Voice Work and Online Projects

I’ve done voice work for the video game series Aveyond and sang in Disney Music Parade.

I also run a long standing YouTube channel where I post a mix of singing, comedy, travel and commentary. Over the years I’ve also created podcasts like The Jason Broccoli Show and RuPaul’s Drag Race Virgins which came out of an early wave of podcasting for me.

What It All Comes Back To

At the center of everything I do whether it’s music, acting, voice work or online content it always comes back to storytelling and connecting with people.

That’s really what performing has always meant to me whether I’m in San Francisco, Tokyo or anywhere else I end up.
